Formed in Skerries Dublin, Primordial have been transcending boundaries with their unique blend of black metal, doom metal and Celtic music since 1991. They  are now about to enter their 32nd year of existence. Originally part of the second wave of black/death/doom underground metal breaking out across the world in the late 80s, and early 90s, they added elements of Irish traditional music and cultural, and historical influences. They began as a black metal band but evolved their sound over the years. Known for their unique blend of black, folk, and Celtic influences, Primordial’s music is characterised by powerful vocals and thought-provoking lyrics that delve into themes of Irish history, mythology, and social issues. They have released several critically acclaimed albums, including “To the Nameless Dead” and “Redemption at the Puritan’s Hand.” Their live performances are known for their intensity and emotional depth.

Primordial was the first black metal-styled band to emerge from Ireland with the release of their Dark Romanticism demo in 1993. Their debut album Imrama was characterised as being slightly more melodic than what was typical for black metal. However, they began to refine their sound with A Journey’s End which used mandolins and whistles. Their releases The Burning Season and Spirit The Earth Aflame showed the band’s reflection of cultural geist and emotion, woven into an amalgam of black, Celtic, and folk metal musical styles.

Primordial has also toured relentlessly with various metal bands in the extreme metal genre, including Norwegian black metal band Immortal. They are currently gearing up to tour with heavy weights Paradise Lost and Omnium Gatherum as headliners for the Ultimate Ratio Fest Tour. The tour will hit sixteen dates across Europe commencing on September 28th.

Primordial will release their highly anticipated tenth full-length How It Ends on September 29th via Metal Blade Records. The band began working on this extensive project in 2022 and promise an angry and visceral album to their listeners. In August ‘Victory Has 1000 Fathers, Defeat Is An Orphan’ was released in advance of the album along with the highly cinematic music video.
