“Sister” was recorded at Studio Cobra in Stockholm, Sweden during March 2013. The album was produced and mixed by Martin “Konie” Ehrencrona and stands as a logical next step above and beyond its predecessor, “The World.The Flesh.The Devil.” In Solitude’s strength resides in their ability to craft dark and oppressive atmospheres within the auditory realm of classic heavy metal. “Sister” compounds this trademark sound further, beginning with the acoustic intro, “He Comes,” and saturates the record in an aura of uniqueness; see: “Lavender”and the title track.
The album concludes with an 8-minute, driving, near trance-like opus that features guest guitarist Pelle Forsberg (Watain). Additionally, Jarboe of Swans fame can be heard on “Horses in the Ground.” Moods range from Mercyful Fate-esque guitar flavors, shadows of Black Sabbath, the heavy dissonance of Swans, to straight-forward, ear worm riffs. In any case, one thing can be said for certain: their delivery is as genuine as it is impressive.
History: In 2002, under an Uppsala Moon, the spirits of ancient evil and old metal are summoned and celebrated. The cloaks of Swedes Niklas Lindstrom (guitar), Uno Bruniusson (drums), Gottfrid Ahman (bass) and Henrik Helenius (guitar / vocals) rose within a circle of fire and gave birth to the band IN SOLITUDE. Tones of below and voices from the deep beyond enlightened the eve. At dawn a new entity will have arisen although a year would pass before it would ride out…
Enter 2003, a feared and forceful enigma would soon be drawn to this flame; Hornper (vocals) had arrived. By the dark light of the morning star, the five bad points of IN SOLITUDE, who hail from Uppsala Sweden (the same town as Watain & Invidious) cast their first shadows. In 2004, IN SOLITUDE released the band’s first self-titled demo, filled with the incipient verses and music from the new beast. Copies soon dissipate into smoke.
In 2005 guitarist/vocalist Henrik Heleius strays off the burning path. The silhouette of another takes form and Mattias Gustafsson is conjured to enrich the sonic spells of these children of the night. In 2006 the band released the second demo Hidden Dangers, which breathes the night air briefly as it too, quickly dissipates into the aura of the European metal nightscape.
In 2008, Sweden’s S.M.P. Records released the EP Hidden Dangers as a 7″ which quickly sold out. Under this same cycle, the band unleashes their nameless 8 song, full-length debut in the form of a CD on Pure Steel Records and cast in wax on High Roller Records. Captured at Burlesco Studios, the same as the demos, this now famous debut was produced by Hasse Bruniusson. The heat of the album spread throughout the land as both versions rapidly saw represses.
Heeding to a growing following, especially in Germany and their home country of Sweden, IN SOLITUDE embarked on a handful of European tours. Touted festivals also witnessed this glorious new beast, namely Keep It True, Up the Hammers, Pounding Metal, Metal Magic and Hell’s Pleasures festivals. Amidst these heighted tiers however, another member grievingly falls, and by the end of 2009 Mattias Gustafsson returned to the mist wherein he came.
IN SOLITUDE signed a worldwide deal with Metal Blade Records in 2010. This is also the year that Henrik Palm, vocalist and guitarist for the heavy punkers Sonic Ritual, passed the trials by fire and thus a new fury rose within the horde. The cultivation of a new sound nears perfection; one that bears the dynamic powers of youth and the embittered wisdom of the ages.
In November 2010, the horde entered Nicke Anderson’s (HELLACOPTERS) brand new studio Gutterview Recorders in Stockholm, Sweden with producer Fred Estby (DISMEMBER, DEATH BREATH) to record the band’s sophomore record, which was released in the Spring of 2011.The World.The Flesh.The Devil was released to worldwide praise from press and fans alike and landed at the #4 spot on Decibel Magazine’s Top 40 Extreme Albums of 2011. Additional accolades were heaped onto the album from Terrorizer Magazine, who called the album“finely crafted, occult-oriented, melodic heavy metal of the highest order”, as well as Guitar World Magazine who claim that “On their sophomore album, Sweden’s retro-minded metallers In Solitude summon the dark essence of Mercyful Fate and the two-guitar attack of Iron Maiden. Guitarists Niklas Lindstrom and Henrik Palm’s heavy riffing and tasty harmonies propel this head-banging disc.” Two years of touring in support of The World.The Flesh.The Devil has earned the band a global fan base. Fans have seen the band on tour on a myriad of European festivals, in the UK with Amon Amarth, as well as in North America as a part of the Decibel Magazine Tour, as well as on tour with metal legends, Down. 2013 and beyond will see continued growth of one of metal’s best newcomers.

With what Metal.de calls “bissel Schmutz,” Beastmilk were born of a Nuclear winter in Helsinki Finland in 2010. These void-mothers kick out an irradiated dust of what they appropriately dub “apocalyptic post-punk.” Their debut demo “White Stains On Black Tape” sold out pretty fast and earned the attention of Darkthrone’s Fenriz, who made it one of his favorites of 2010. Metal Hammer Germany wrote that “Beastmilk sounds like the secret recording from a psychedelic mass, located stylistically between Roky Erickson, early Misfits and The Devil’s Blood.” They quickly gained the recognition of Finnish label Svart Records and inked a deal to repress the demo on wax along with their next release, both on 7″ vinyl.
“wicked . . .trippy . .dreamy . . .and pretty fucking epic” said rocknreelreviews about their follow-up 7″ “Use Your Deluge,” and avantgarde-metal.com called it “downer death-rock, heavily indebted to the ilks of early CHRISTIAN DEATH and similar noctambulant cobweb-mongers.”
The band played their first show with local old-school legends, and noted band influences, Nolla Nolla Nolla & Radiopuhelimet, following up with plenty of live shows both in Finland and abroad with an exclusive show at the Metal Magick festival in Denmark. In June 2013 they flew out to Boston, USA, to record at GodCity Studio with the legendary Kurt Ballou (Converge), who produced their debut full-length album. The album, entitled “Climax,” was released to critical acclaim in November 2013 on LP, CD and digital, in the EU by Svart Records and in North America by Magic Bullet Records.
